Members of the 211 national football associations under the International Association Football Federation, or Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), will gather in Bangkok for the 74th FIFA Congress from 13 to 17 May. 

Thailand will be the first ASEAN country and the fifth in the Asia-Pacific region after Japan, South Korea, Qatar, and Australia to host the annual gathering of world football leaders. The 74th FIFA Congress is scheduled for 17 May at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center.

Minister of Tourism and Sports Sermsak Pongpanit said that more than 3,000 people are expected to participate in this international meeting and other related activities. The historic event, to be broadcast to a global audience, will provide a good opportunity for Thailand to promote its tourism, culture, traditions, and way of life, as well as making Thai hospitality and “soft power” better known. Moreover, it would also inspire Thai athletes and various groups of local children and youth.

President of the Football Association of Thailand Nualphan Lamsam stated that an item on the agenda at the congress would be the selection of the host for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup. She thanked the Thai government and the public and private sectors for their support, saying that the congress would leave a lasting impression on the global football community.

Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand Gongsak Yodmani said that it was a great honor for Thailand to host the FIFA congress, and that it reflects FIFA’s recognition of Thailand’s capability. This will also show Thailand’s potential for sports and tourism and foster greater interest in football among local people, especially children and youth.

Director of the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) Chiruit Isarangkun Na Ayuthaya said that the hosting of the FIFA congress is expected to generate 228 million baht for the country and promote Thailand as a destination for the gathering of global sports associations.

The Government is scheduled to host a dinner for important delegates attending the congress at Santi Matri Building, Government House, on Wednesday, 15 May, at 19.00 hr.
