Thailand Provides Assistance to People Affected by Cyclone Mocha in Myanmar

Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha delivered humanitarian relief assistance to the people of Myanmar through U Chit Swe, Ambassador of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar to Thailand, in a ceremony held at Government House on 22 May 2023.

On behalf of the Government and the people of Thailand, the Prime Minister took this opportunity to convey to the Ambassador of Myanmar his deepest condolences for the widespread impacts on the lives and properties of the Myanmar people affected by this Cyclone.

He also expressed his sincere hope that Myanmar would be able to overcome this difficult period soon. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Thailand stands ready to provide full support in all areas as needed by Myanmar.

This batch of assistance from Thailand consists of food and relief items donated by public and private sectors in Thailand, namely, the Thai Red Cross Society, the Thai-Myanmar Association for Friendship, the Thai Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade of Thailand, PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited (PTTEP), and Siam Cement Group (SCG).

It is intended to support Myanmar’s ongoing humanitarian relief efforts for those affected by the devastating Cyclone Mocha in the western part of Myanmar. The Thai Red Cross Society and the Thai Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade of Thailand have also opened bank accounts for donation to help those affected.

The assistance reflects Thailand’s solidarity with Myanmar as close neighbors. It is part of the broader humanitarian relief efforts from Thailand to Myanmar through various channels, which are bilateral level, with strong collaboration between public and private sectors, and through ASEAN. Thailand is monitoring the situation closely and is ready to provide further assistance as needed by Myanmar.
