Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin will lead a Thai delegation to participate in the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA78) in New York from 18 to 24 September 2023.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, important activities by the Prime Minister include (1) UN meetings, (2) meetings with the private sector, such as the US Chamber of Commerce, the US-ASEAN Business Council, and key US business leaders, and (3) engagements with Thai communities and “Team Thailand” in the US.
The Prime Minister will deliver Thailand’s national statement during the General Debate and will participate in the SDG Summit. Achieving the 17 SDGs has always been among Thailand’s priorities at the national level.
The Prime Minister will also attend the Climate Action Summit. Other meetings for the Prime Minister include a meeting with Mr. António Guterres, Secretary General of the United Nations, and other high-level bilateral meetings.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara will accompany the Prime Minister at all engagements. In addition, he will take part in the Preparatory Ministerial Meeting of the Summit of the Future, which will take place next year. Mr. Parnpree will use this opportunity to seek support for Thailand’s candidature to the UN Human Rights Council for the term 2025-2027, the election for which will take place in October 2023.
He will also meet high-level representatives from other countries, including Mr. Dennis Francis, President of the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, as well as attending high-level meetings on public health and Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
