In Remembrance of H.M. King Bhumibol Adulyadej
5 December Designated National Significant Day

10 February 2017 (Readers 772)

The Royal Command has designated 5 December each year a national significant day. The Cabinet on 7 February 2017 acknowledged the countersigning of the Royal Command in an announcement of the Prime Ministerís Office.

5 December will also remain a public holiday, according to the decision made by the Cabinet. The day is significant for three occasions. It is the birthday anniversary of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej. It is also observed as Thailandís National Day and National Fatherís Day.

People were deeply saddened by the passing of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej on 13 October 2016. He is greatly missed by his subjects, who hold lasting memories of him, and when they recall his life and work, they are filled with much admiration and appreciation for what he did for the people during his long and remarkable reign.

His Majesty deserved to be called a "paternal monarchĒ for his great devotion and unbounded love toward his subjects. He was sometimes referred to by his subjects as Pho Luang, Royal Father, whom they regarded as their devoted father. He spent his life working for the benefit of his people, who were all his "children.Ē

5 December was designated as Thailandís National Fatherís Day in 1980. Each year on National Fatherís Day, a number of model fathers are named and presented with certificates and plaques of honor.

His Majesty the late King is also recognized as a model of the leader of righteousness, with his ability to reign in the hearts of the people.
