The Kingdom of Thailand to Stage Royal Kathin Barge Procession on 22 October 2011

To commemorate the auspicious occasion of HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s 84th birthday anniversary on 5 December 2011, Rear Admiral Apiwat Sriwattana, in his capacity as Chairman of the Preparation Committee for the Royal Barge Procession, has announced that the Royal Thai Navy will be organizing a Royal Kathin Barge Procession on 22 October 2011. The event is to mark the visit of His Majesty the King and members of the royal family to a royal temple to present offerings of saffron kathin robes to the monks.

The 6th Thailand International Wax Sculpture and Ubon Ratchathani Candle Procession Festival

Date: 1-31 July 2011 Venue: Thung Sri Muang Park and Ubon Ratchathani National Museum. The Candle Festival of Ubon Ratchathani province features a procession of ornately-carved traditional beeswax candles of various shapes and sizes. Buddhism, Buddhist traditions and beliefs are central forces that shape the local way of life and the customs and traditions related to this Buddhist festival have been carefully preserved by local communities.
