Life in Bangkok Center Returning to Normal: Update as of 25 May 2010

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has announced that order in the capital of Bangkok and the provinces of Thailand has been restored while a joint taskforce of police and military personnel acting under the direction of the Center for the Resolution of the Emergency Situation (CRES) has completed its security sweep to clear all areas previously occupied by the protesters.

Thailand Wins Its First Palme d’Or at Cannes Film Festival

The Thai film Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives, a spooky tale of reincarnation by Apichatpong Weerasethakul, won the Palme d’Or honour for Best Picture at the 63rd Cannes Film Festival in France.

Visakha Puja -- The Memorial Day of a Great Teacher in Buddhism

The three most important holy days of the year for Thai Buddhists all include the word "Puja," which means to pay homage. Asanha Puja commemorates the day the Lord Buddha preached his first sermon. Makha Puja marks both the occasion when 1,350 of the Buddha's disciples gathered without prior notice and listened to the Buddha elaborate some of his most important teachings in a sermon, as well as the day he foresaw his own death and attainment of Nibbana (Nirvana).
