Famous Russian Ballet Troupe to Stage Birthday Performance for HM the King

A world famous ballet troupe will stage a special performance for His Majesty the King in December as an 80th birthday present from Russian President Vladimir Putin. The renowned ballet from the Mariinsky Theater in Russia will perform at the Thailand Cultural Center on December 6-8. The Russian troupe impressed Her Majesty the Queen during her state visit to Russia in July to commemorate 110 years of ties between Thailand and Russia, and she relayed her impressions of the ballet in her birthday speech to well-wishers on August 12. The Mariinsky ballet was set up in 1783 in Saint Petersburg and has produced several world class performers, including Uliana Lopatkina.

His Majesty the King Honored with International Awards for His Inventions

His Majesty the King has been honored with awards from two international organizations, one from Hungary’s International Federation of Inventors’ Association, or IFIA, and the other from the Republic of Korea’s Korea Invention Promotion Association, or KIPA.

HM the King Given Awards for Inventions

Two foreign research agencies have bestowed prestigious awards on His Majesty the King for his outstanding inventions. The Budapest-based International Federation of Inventors' Association (IFIA) has presented the IFIA Cup 2007 for His Majesty's Chai Pattana areator. The Federation has also presented its Genius Medal prize to honor His Majesty's Self-Sufficiency Philosophy and his New Theory, which revives farming techniques based on Thai wisdom focusing on minimal use of resources but aiming for higher agricultural productivity. Meanwhile, the Korea Institute of Public Administration has presented a special prize to His Majesty for his contributions to Thai society. It said His Majesty's inventions had been proven practical and useful.

Pink Fever Spreads For HM the King's Good Health

The "Pink Fever" is quickly spreading across Thailand as people from all walks of life have flocked to buy pink T-shirts or shirts symbolizing His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej's good health. The Ministry of Culture has invited people to wear pink clothing as pink is an astrological symbol for His Majesty the King's good health. Wearing pink or yellow clothing is both an emblem commemorating the auspicious occasion of His Majesty the King's 80th birthday anniversary on 5 December 2007. The beloved monarch himself wore a pink suit when he left Bangkok's Siriraj Hospital for Chitralada Villa yesterday after a 25-day medical treatment amid thousands of yellow-clad well-wishers along the route.

HM the King Is Discharged from Hospital

His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej is set to be discharged from Siriraj Hospital today. The Bureau of the Royal Household announced the good news in its 26th statement last night following an earlier statement saying that His Majesty the King can now walk for short distance without support and can take normal meals. His Majesty was admitted to Siriraj Hospital on 13 October 2007 for treatment over mild symptom of inadequate blood flow in the outer part of his left-side brain, known as cerebral ischemia, causing His Majesty losing strength over the right side of his body. The beloved monarch has steadily regained strength, but doctors have asked him to continue his physical exercises after returning to Chitralada Villa.

HRH Princess Galyani Is Further Recovering

The Bureau of the Royal Household announced that HRH Princess Galyani Vadhana was more alert with no fever today. She could also sit upright on her bed and could occasionally sit in the wheelchair. HRH Princess Galyani, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej's eldest sister, has been diagnosed with cancer since June this year and has been admitted to Siriraj Hospital to receive medicine treatment. The Princess, 84, is also having problems with the right side of her body as some parts of her brain are dysfunctional, caused by bloodclots. Doctors have continued treating the Princess with antibiotics and physical therapy.

A Pakistani Nursing Professional Receives Srinagarindra Award

A retired Pakistani nursing professional has received the Srinagarindra Award this year. HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn conferred the royal prize to the awardee, Mrs. Nisab Ahktar, at a ceremony held in Bangkok today in recognition of her contribution toward the field of nursing and healthcare in Pakistan. Mrs. Ahktar, who has been Director Nursing at Fatima Memorial Hospital in Lahore of Pakistan's Punjab Province since her retirement, has devoted her knowledge and skills to help develope the nursing profession and to promote the well-being of Pakistani people over the past 50 years. The honorable Princess Srinagarindra Award comprises of a certificate and a cash prize of US$ 1,000. It is bestowed annually to an individual registered nurse or group of registered nurses making a significant contribution to the nursing profession.

Royal Medical Condition Is Improving

Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana's condition is more stable and she is now capable of sitting up in bed for longer periods of time. The 11th Royal Household Bureau statement on her condition said yesterday that the Princess is still on medication, tube-fed with food supplements, and undergoing physical therapy. His Majesty the King is now able to stand without the aid of a walker from time to time, according to the 23th Royal Household Bureau statement on his condition. The King is also able to perform more exercises.

HM the King, HRH Princess Galyani's Conditions Improve Further

The conditions of His Majesty the King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana's have improved further. In the 22th statement issued by the Royal Household Bureau, released yesterday, the Committee of Royal Physicians reported that the King's hematological profile tests are within normal limits. He can walk more comfortably with support. Meanwhile, according to the 10th statement of the Royal Household Bureau, the Royal Physicians reported that HRH Princess Galyani is able to speak more distinctly and has made some progress in the movements of her right hand. A regimen of physical therapy and supplementary nourishment are still given.
