Ancient royal tradition adopted from India specifies five principal royal regalia as the symbols of kingship. They are presented to the monarch in a grand ceremony at the coronation. Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn has graciously accepted the UNESCO Goodwill Ambassadorship for the ?Empowerment of Minority Children through Education and through the Preservation of Their Intangible Cultural Heritage.? UNESCO Director-General Koichiro Matsuura conferred this title on the Princess at Dusit Palace in Bangkok on 24 March 2005.
