Guide to PRD Press Card

Regulations for Application for Press Card of the Public Relations Department, Office of the Prime Minister 1988 (Revised 2012)

The Public Relations Department (PRD) issues press cards for journalists, both domestic and foreign. The PRD's Foreign Office is responsible for the press accreditation of every foreign correspondent who is based in Thailand. A press card from the PRD provides a correspondent access to government information and official events that are open to the media.

The following are regulations for the application for a press card:

1. Eligible Applicants and Validity

1.1 Correspondents or representatives of newspapers, magazines, foreign news agencies, and radio and television stations. The card is valid for one year.
1.2 Thai nationals who work for foreign news agencies, and radio and television stations. The card is valid for one year.
1.3 Local correspondents, and radio and television representatives going abroad on temporary missions. The card is valid for the period of assignment.

2. Press Card Application Requirements

2.1 Foreign Correspondents
a. A copy of the application form and one photo (2 inches). The application form is available at http://thailand.prd.go.th.
b. An acknowledgement letter issued by the Department of Information, Ministry of Foreign Affairs verifying the correspondent's status
c. An accredited letter issued by the agency's headquarters addressing to the "Director-General of the Public Relations Department, Office of the Prime Minister"
d. A photocopy of valid passport, visa, and (in case of renewal) work permit
e. Application fee 50 baht

2.2 Thai Nationals
a. A copy of application form, and one photo (2 inches). The application form is available at http://thailand.prd.go.th.
b. An accredited letter issued by the bureau chief, the director, or the manager of the agency
c. A photocopy of home registration
d. A photocopy of identity card
e. Application fee 50 baht

* Those who apply for the PRD press card must submit the documents at the Public Relations Department in person and are requested to sign the press card in front of the officials.

* Renewing of the PRD press card will not be allowed over 30 days in advance, pior to its expiry date.

* The renewed press card is normally valid for one year. In the case that foreign correspondents have renewed their visa and work permit before renewing their press card, the validity of press card will be concurrent with the expiry date of their visa and work permit.
3. Change of Agency

A press card is invalid when the holder changes his/her place of employment. The invalid press card should be returned to the Public Relations Department within 15 days and new application be made in accordance with the aforementioned regulations.

4. Change of Address

When a press card holder changes his/her address, notification should be given to the Public Relations Department within 15 days.

5. Loss of Press Card

In case of loss, the holder may apply for a new press card by submitting his/her own letter to the Public Relations Department stating that the press card is lost. The letter must be accompanied by a police report regarding the incident of loss.

6. The press card will not be issued to or renewed for journalists or members of the press who fail to comply with any of the above regulations.

7. The Public Relations Department reserves the right to revoke the press card in case of misconduct on the part of the card holder.
