Readiness Is Confirmed for the 14th ASEAN Summit (24/02/2009)
Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva confirmed Thailand’s readiness to host the 14th ASEAN Summit in Cha-am and Hua Hin from 27 February to 1 March 2009.

A press tour of the Summit site was conducted over the past weekend by Deputy Director-General of the Department of Information, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Thani Thongpakdi, and the Government Spokesman’s team. The party inspected the main venue, the Dusit Thani Hua Hin Hotel in Cha-am, with the Royal Dusit Hall as the summit site, where the inauguration ceremony, the official signing of documents and the press conference will take place. The Cabinet meeting on 24 February 2009 is also held here, notably as a test of facilities for the ASEAN Summit.

Members of the press also visited Sheraton Hua Hin Resort and Spa, the location of the fully-equipped Summit Press Center, which would be in operation from 08.00 to 22.00 hours every day. According to Deputy Government Spokesman, Supachai Chaisamut, the Press Center would also serve as the complaint center for protestors.

Meanwhile, the Mae Fa Luang Foundation has prepared summit attire for leaders and their spouses, as well as gift packages. Tailored linen cotton shirts in deep blue, with a purple checkered pattern on the front, will be worn by leaders at the dinner reception at Mrigadayavan Palace on February 28. Gifts for leaders and their spouses are carefully selected from folk craft items and produced by the Mae Fa Luang Foundation.

Khunying Puangroi Diskul Na Ayudhya, Deputy Secretary-General of the Mae Fa Luang Foundation, said that all villagers involved were proud to be part of the good impression ASEAN leaders will have of Thailand.

She added that the Foundation had already prepared floral-patterned silk jackets in three colors - grayish blue, vermillion, and dark brown-tailored in an applied “Royal Pattern” Thai style, with a raised collar, and one button at the waist featuring the ASEAN Summit logo, complete with a short-sleeved silk shirt in cream color, for leaders attending the ASEAN+6 Summit in April this year.
