The International Federation of Muaythai Amateur (IFMA), the world governing body for the sport of Muay Thai will be holding its annual world championships in Bangkok from 27 November to 5 December 2009.
National teams from some 82 countries will be participating in the championships, which will include all weight divisions for male, female, and juniors. Gold medalists from these championships will qualify to participate in the 2010 Sportaccord Combat Games in Beijing.
The competition is open to the public free of charge and will take place in the exhibition hall of The Mall Ngamwongwan from 27 November to 4 December 2009. A Muay Thai expo will take place just outside the competition venue with all major Muay Thai products and memorabilia on offer.
Some of the finals in selected weight classes that have mass spectator appeal will take place at Sanam Luang on December 5 in honor of H.M. the King’s birthday, followed by a professional eight-man tournament, the winner of which will earn the King’s Cup as well as one of the highest purses in Muay Thai history.
