His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn will preside over the opening of the new House of Representatives on Monday, August 1, at the Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall, Dusit Palace.
His Majesty the King issued a royal command on July 27, calling for the opening of the House of Representatives, and he also delegated the Crown Prince to preside over the ceremony on August 1, when the House convenes for its first meeting.
The royal command came after the Election Commission of Thailand on July 27 endorsed another 94 elected MP candidates, bringing the total number of endorsed MPs to 496.
According to the Constitution, the new 500-member House of Representatives can only convene its first meeting when at least 475 MPs, representing 95 percent, have been endorsed.
The first sitting of the House of Representatives must be convened within 30 days after the election day, July 3, as required by the Constitution.
