The Committee on Public Relations for the Royal Cremation of Her Royal Highness Princess Bejaratana has set up the Main Press Center to facilitate the operations of both Thai and international media covering the royal cremation ceremony, scheduled for 8-12 April 2012.
The Main Press Center is located at Sriburapha Auditorium (Small Auditorium), Thammasat University, Tha Phra Chan, near the Sanam Luang ceremonial site, in Bangkok.
It will be officially opened on Wednesday, April 4, at 14.00 hr. The opening ceremony will be presided over by Professor Tongthong Chandransu, Permanent Secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office.
The Press Working Area at the center is equipped with various facilities, such as telephone lines, fax machines, Internet-linked computers, and plug-in points for laptops, plus an antivirus program for computers brought in by journalists.
The center also includes a press conference room and staff working areas. It operates from April 4 to 12, between 08.30 and 21.30 hr. On April 9, the royal cremation day, the operations of the Main Press Center will be in accordance with the schedule for the royal cremation. According to the schedule, the ceremony begins at 07.00 hr when His Majesty the King assigns His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn and Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn to represent him in moving the royal urn containing the remains of Princess Bejaratana from Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall within the Grand Palace to the Royal Crematorium at the Sanam Luang ceremonial site. The symbolic royal cremation will take place at 16.30 hr and the actual royal cremation at 22.00 hr.
The Committee on Public Relations for the Royal Cremation of Her Royal Highness Princess Bejaratana has also set up the International Broadcast Center (IBC) at the Government Lottery Office on Ratchadamnoen Klang Road near Sanam Luang. The center, which will broadcast live the royal cremation ceremony, works jointly with TV Pool of Thailand – Television Channel 3, Television Channel 5, Television Channel 7, and Modernine TV (Channel 9) – NBT (Channel 11), and Thai PBS.
