Activities and Projects in Celebration of Her Majesty the Queen’s 80th Birthday (22/06/2012)
The National Commission on the Celebrations on the Auspicious Occasion of Her Majesty the Queen’s 80th Birthday has approved a number of activities and projects to be carried out in commemoration of Her Majesty’s birthday, 12 August 2012.

The decision was made on 20 June 2012 at a meeting of the commission, chaired by Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, at Santi Maitri Building, Government House.

The meeting assigned the Secretariat to the Prime Minister to hold a garden party and a banquet in honor of Her Majesty at Government House. Her Majesty will be invited to graciously attend this event.

An exhibition in honor of Her Majesty on this special occasion will be held between 9 and 15 August 2012 at CentralWorld in Bangkok. It will feature Her Majesty’s work in various fields, such as arts and crafts, education, public service, and environmental preservation. The Minister to the Prime Minister’s Office, Mr. Niwattumrong Boonsongpaisan, serves as chairman of the organizing committee for the exhibition. Another exhibition will be held on royal decorations and minted coins at an office of the Treasury Department on Chakkrapong Road in Bangkok.

The Office of the Permanent Secretary, under the Prime Minister’s Office, and MCOT Public Company were entrusted with producing a documentary in honor of Her Majesty. The documentary will be shown on various television channels. A concert in honor of Her Majesty will be organized by the Prime Minister’s Office and MCOT on 5 September. Her Majesty will be invited to attend the concert, which will be televised on Modernine TV at 20.30 hr and will continue to the end of the concert. The Minister to the Prime Minister’s Office, Mr. Niwattumrong Boonsongpaisan will be responsible for organizing the concert. Proceeds will go to the SUPPORT Foundation under the patronage of Her Majesty the Queen.

The meeting of the national commission also agreed to launch a reforestation project across the country for a period of five years, starting from 2012. The project will continue until 2016, when Thailand celebrates the auspicious occasion of Her Majesty’s 84th birthday. A building will be constructed in the compound of Phramongkutklao Hostpital in Bangkok to broaden medical knowledge and skills.

Another project is “The Mother of the Land Fund Village in Celebration of Her Majesty the Queen’s 80th Birthday,” aimed at fighting narcotic drugs. Funds under the Mother of the Land Fund Village Project will be offered to communities nationwide, which will empower them to ease the drug situation.

The Government has invited both the public and private sectors to organize more activities and carry out more projects in celebration of Her Majesty the Queen’s 80th birthday. They may send details of their activities and projects to the Office of the Permanent Secretary under the Prime Minister’s Office by 31 August 2012.
