The ceremony was witnessed by high ranking officials of PRD and VOV. This is the revised MOU as the two organizations signed one in 1999 for bilateral cooperation in information and broadcasting – covering radio and information (websites). This new MOU, which was approved by the Thai cabinet on May 20th 2012, extends the cooperation into television, making the exchange of news and information between the two media organizations comprehensive.
The signing ceremony was followed by the Joint Technical Committee Meeting hosted by the PRD. The annual meeting acts as a platform for both parties to report their work progress under the agreement. They also shared, discussed and agreed on solutions to problems they encountered during the past year in order to improve future work. Under the cooperation framework, the PRD and VOV agreed on cooperation in exchanging radio and television news and programs, online news and features as well as media practitioners exchanging programs.
PRD Director-General Mr. Teerapong Sodasri stressed the significance of the cooperation on information and broadcasting, saying that it not only promotes mutual understanding of the people of the two countries, but it also stimulates the connectivity among people in ASEAN, paving a smooth path for the ASEAN community in the near future. The VOV Vice president, Mr, Vu Hai sees the new MOU to be in line with today’s media landscape which media organizations need to disseminate news and information in all dimensions and platforms.
