Sa Kaeo Special Economic Zone Attractive to Investors

29 December 2017 (Readers 854)

The Sa Kaeo Special Economic Zone in the eastern province of Sa Kaeo is becoming more attractive to large and small investors, who are being provided with investment promotion incentives and privileges.

According to the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand, many major entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized (SME) operators have shown interest in investing in the Sa Kaeo Special Economic Zone and have sought to obtain information about land leases in the area.

The target industries in this zone involve agriculture, textiles, furniture, gems and jewelry, electrical appliances and electronics, plastics, medicine, logistics, and tourism. The Sa Kaeo Special Economic Zone covers four subdistricts along the border areas of Aranyaprathet and Watthana Nakhon districts.

Formerly, Sa Kaeo was under the administration of Prachin Buri province. It was upgraded to provincial status in 1993. Sa Kaeo shares a 165-kilometer-long border with Cambodia. It is also located in the Greater Mekong Subregions Southern Economic Corridor, which is an important channel for transportation of goods from Thailand to Phnom Penh and southern Vietnam.

In 2016, Thai-Cambodian border trade via Sa Kaeo was valued at 69.3 billion baht. Major Thai exports through this border trade include engines, cars and automotive parts, tractors, rice combine harvesters, and cement.

The Aranyaprathet International Border Checkpoint is a permanent checkpoint connecting with Banteay Meanchey province in Cambodia. This border checkpoint has registered the highest cross-border trade value between Thailand and Cambodia. Aranyaprathet is located 250 kilometers from Laem Chabang Port in Chon Buri province, in the Eastern Economic Corridor.

Sa Kaeo has set its vision for 2018 to 2021 to become a border city of happiness moving toward safe agriculture and eco-tourism to accommodate the Sa Kaeo Special Economic Zone.
