Thailand and Cambodia launch cross-border QR payment Phase II

The Bank of Thailand and the National Bank of Cambodia have entered the second phase of their cross-border QR payment system, in which Thai tourists are able to use their Thai mobile banking applications to scan KHQR codes to pay for goods and services at merchants in Cambodia by using local currency.

In the first phase, which started in 2020, Cambodian tourists visiting Thailand could use their mobile banking applications to scan Thai QR codes at merchants in Thailand by using the exchange rates when making payment. This service is based on interoperable QR codes compliant with international standards.

It not only facilitates trade and tourism between both countries, but also marks a significant step toward financial inclusion and widespread use of local currencies.
