The Thai government is planning to introduce a special visa for foreigners who come to Thailand to learn Muay Thai, or Thai boxing. It will allow them to stay in the Kingdom for up to 90 days instead of 60 days without the special visa. This is expected to help promote Muay Thai and make it become better known internationally, and it will help to increase total tourism revenue to the target of 3.38 trillion baht.
In addition, the government will set standards for Muay Thai teachers by providing them with training courses and professional licenses in order to export Muay Thai teachers overseas.
Muay Thai has attained a great deal of popularity among Thais and foreigners. There are over 5,000 Muay Thai gyms around the country, and they have the capacity and ability to accommodate even more foreign Muay Thai learners.
