Thailand’s Senate has just passed the Equal Marriage Bill with a resulting vote of 130 in favor, four against, and 18 abstentions. The law will come into force 120 days after the announcement in the Royal Gazette. When the process is completed, Thailand will become the first Southeast Asian nation and the third in Asia to legalize the marriage of individuals regardless of gender.
Following the Senate’s approval, the LGBTQIAN+ community and the public expressed their gratitude and celebrated this historic milestone at Thai Khu Fa Building in Government House.
