Thai Suphalak cat breed gets international recognition

Suphalak, an ancient cat breed that originated in Thailand, has been officially recognized by the World Cat Federation (WCF) General Assembly 2024 in Germany.

The process for approval to recognize the breed involves collecting information on the breed in terms of history, breed characteristics, and genetic information to establish the breed standards. It is also necessary to arrange a pre-recognition show in order to invite expert judges from the WCF to inspect the breed. The show was organized by the Trade Association of Registered Cats (ARC) in 2021 with two executive directors from the WCF, Mrs. Cornelia Hungerecker and Mr. Jurgen Trautmann.

Suphalak has a solid reddish-brown, copper-colored, short-haired coat, and it is notably people-oriented. They are intelligent, affectionate, playful, and communicative, and do not like to be left alone or ignored.

With this recognition, the Suphalak breed helps further promote Thailand's rich cultural heritage in cat breeding.
