Today (September 3, 2024), the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) launched the Asia Media Summit 2024. The 19th annual event is themed "Media: the New Odyssey," focusing on innovations to strengthen media, combat misinformation and negative impacts from online media and technology, and promote comprehensive communication and audience engagement.
The opening ceremony was presided over by H.E. Teo Nie Ching, Malaysia’s Deputy Minister of Communications, who emphasized the need for media to adapt to technological challenges and online threats. She highlighted the importance of cooperation between the government and media to protect vulnerable group from fake news.
Thailand was represented by Mrs. Sudruetai Lertkasem, Director-General of the Public Relations Department and Chair of AIBD’s Executive Board (EXBO), and Ms. Lada Phumas, the Thai Ambassador to Kuala Lumpur. High-level representatives from AIBD member countries, including the Minister of Information & Communication Technology (ICT) from Papua New Guinea and the Minister of Information from Cambodia, also attended.
The summit serves as a platform for exchanging perspectives and experiences in media through various activities, including expert-led training sessions and panel discussions on media development. This year, AIBD highlights the role of media in addressing innovations and communication technologies, such as using AI to produce engaging, accurate content that reaches all audiences, elevates the creative media industry, and builds public trust while contributing to global peace.
Previously, the Department of Public Relations, in collaboration with AIBD, organized training programs to enhance crisis communication skills and high-quality media production. The "Masterclass for Masterpiece" program provides journalists across Thailand with skills in TV and online media production, showcasing the department's commitment to international media development cooperation.
The 20th Asia Media Summit will be held in 2025 in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Meanwhile, the AIBD Annual General Conference and Executive Board Meeting for 2025 are scheduled to take place in Thailand in mid-2025.
