New street art revitalizes Lopburi Province

The new street art in Lopburi’s old city area has become the province’s latest landmark. Inspired by Shibuya street art in Japan, Lopburi street art was created by painting its specialties in vibrant colors, such as monkeys and sunflowers, on the road at the large intersection near the Prang Sam Yot pagoda ruins. The effort was made by members of local communities, including students, along with their teachers and officials of Lopburi Municipality.

This is the second location for the street art project, just a short stroll from the first one. Before the New Year 2025, the third spot of the street art, taking place around the site of the Prang Sam Yot pagoda ruins, will be finished. The buildings in that area will also be painted.

This project aims to enliven the city, attract more visitors, and generate greater revenue for the local community. The province has also been attempting to reduce the monkey population and relocate them out of Lopburi’s popular spots to make the neighborhoods more livable.
