The Ministry of Commerce, through the Department of Intellectual Property, has registered two famous mango varieties from Chachoengsao, Khai Tuek Pad Riew mango and Rad Pad Riew mango, as Geographical Indication products, following Nam Dok Mai See Thong Bang Khla mango (Barracuda mango), Bang Khla aromatic coconut, and Pad Riew Khiew Sawoey mango.
Khai Tuek Pad Riew mango, a traditional Thai mango variety, is commonly eaten as an unripe mango. Its flavor is a unique combination of sweet and slightly sour. Its name reflects its irresistible flavor, as people joke, that would sell their homes to buy it.
Rad Pad Riew mango (Mangifera indica) is another popular variety that offers a delightful balance of flavor, and the pulp is firm and crisp, making it a favorite among Thai and foreign consumers.
This certification enhances their market value. It reinforces confidence in their origin, providing economic opportunities for local farmers, and it promotes Chachoengsao’s agricultural identity.
