Thailand's Government Public Relations Department, or PRD, has strengthened its media cooperation with China's Xinhua News Agency through a new memorandum of understanding. The signing ceremony took place at Beijing's Great Hall of the People between the Director-General of the PRD Sudrutai Lertkasem and the President of Xinhua News Agency Fu Hua, witnessed by Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra and Chinese Premier Li Qiang.
The agreement aims to improve information sharing between both countries. It includes content exchange in Thai and English across traditional and digital platforms, as well as joint media personnel development programs. To support this initiative, the PRD has enhanced its digital presence through the PRDEE OTT streaming service and the Thailand.go.th website in five languages, namely Thai, English, Chinese, Japanese, and German.
The Director-General of the PRD stated that Jiraporn Sindhuprai, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister's Office, who oversees the PRD, was truly delighted with the signing of the MoU. She stressed its importance in showcasing Thailand's positive image to the world and fostering collaboration between Thai and international media, especially with China, a nation with which Thailand enjoys a long and close relationship.
This agreement is particularly timely, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries. The minister believes the MoU signifies a promising step forward in Thai-Chinese media and information cooperation, one that will promote greater understanding, raise awareness, and combat the spread of misinformation in the region.
She finally noted the MoU's crucial role in addressing the growing problem of call center scams, a critical issue that the Prime Minister has raised with Chinese leaders during her visit.
