The President and Chief Executive Officer of Formula One Group, Stefano Domenicali, held discussions with Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra to study the feasibility of having Thailand host Formula One (F1) races, attracting motorsport fans from around the globe. The Government expects to start hosting F1 races in Thailand from 2028.
The Prime Minister agreed to work with all relevant sectors to conduct a comprehensive study on suitable race locations and related investment, as well as the overall feasibility of hosting F1 races in the future. It is believed that such a world-class sport event not only demonstrates the country’s ability to organize international events, but also helps promote the economy and tourism.
The CEO of Formula One Group said that hosting F1 races in Thailand would bring various opportunities and benefits. The races help promote tourism by encouraging tourists to stay longer in Thailand, explore unique Thai culture, and see Thailand's potential and infrastructure that can be further developed. He added that the F1 team is focused on organizing events that reflect the local culture of each country's racetracks. The team also prioritizes high safety standards and creating an immersive experience. He believes that F1 is a key platform to connect people from around the world.
