Thai Airports Ready for Songkran Surge
Increased flights and passenger numbers expected
Extra check-in counters and enhanced services to be provided

Thailand's Ministry of Transport is preparing six major airports, including Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang, Chiang Mai, Mae Fah Luang Chiang Rai, Phuket, and Hat Yai, for the anticipated surge in travelers during the coming Songkran festival through comprehensive management strategies, reduced terminal congestion, and increased staffing to oversee orderliness and assist with travel document verification.

Airports of Thailand (AOT) predicts a 9.1% increase in international flights and a 22.7% rise in domestic flights during the Songkran period from 11-17 April. The overall passenger numbers are expected to reach 79,191,431, representing an 18.3% increase from the previous year, with a 14.1% increase in international passengers and a 25.5% increase in domestic passengers.

Recognizing the continuous growth in travel and tourism during the Songkran festival, the Ministry of Transport is also offering a "free parking" initiative at four airports nationwide to enhance convenience for travelers. This service will be available from 00:01 on 12 April until 24:00 on 16 April at the following locations: 1) Suvarnabhumi Airport at the Long-Term Parking Zone C, 2) Don Mueang Airport in front of the 5-story parking building, 3) Chiang Mai Airport at the "Lan Chang" area next to the international passenger terminal, and 4) Phuket Airport in front of the AOT office building from 00:01 on 11 April to 23:59 on 16 April.

In addition, AOT will coordinate with airlines to open additional check-in counters or provide early check-in services. Staff will be stationed at all service points to facilitate smooth and efficient passenger flow.
