Thailand’s film industry celebrates a proud moment as “A Useful Ghost” (ผีใช้ได้ค่ะ), a horror-comedy-fantasy film by director Ratchapoom Boonbunchachoke, wins the AMI Paris Grand Prize at Critics’ Week during the 78th Cannes Film Festival — the first Thai film in a decade to be selected and awarded in this section.
The film, produced by 185 Films and supported by international film funds from France, Germany, Singapore, the Netherlands, and Thailand’s Ministry of Culture, tells the quirky tale of a man whose late wife returns as a spirit inhabiting a vacuum cleaner, determined to prove that even ghosts can be useful.
Minister of Culture Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol hailed this achievement as a major step in boosting Thai soft power on the global stage and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the creative industries as key drivers of Thailand’s economy.
