Digital travel platform Agoda has released new data on Asia’s most popular rural getaways, based on accommodation searches from February to August 2025.
Malaysia’s Cameron Highlands topped the list, followed by Khao Yai (Thailand) and Puncak (Indonesia). Other destinations in the top eight include Fujikawaguchiko (Japan), Kenting (Taiwan), Sapa (Vietnam), Munnar (India), and Pyeongchang-gun (South Korea).
The findings highlight a growing interest in highland and small-town tourism, with travelers seeking slower-paced escapes that combine natural beauty with cultural experiences.
Akaporn Rodkong, Country Director of Agoda Thailand, commented:
“We are happy to see Khao Yai named one of Asia’s top rural destinations. It has long been a favorite escape for people in Thailand, and now more travelers across Asia are discovering what makes it special — from its fresh air and national parks to the relaxed pace of life.”
