Elevating Nakhon Phanom’s Illuminated Boat Festival to the Global Stage

From 27 September – 8 October 2025, the banks of the Mekong River in Nakhon Phanom will come alive with Thailand’s one-of-a-kind Illuminated Boat Festival — now elevated as a World Event to showcase Thai Soft Power to the world.

🔹 The largest illuminated boat contest ever, with grand creations from all 12 districts of Nakhon Phanom on 7 October.
🔹 Spectacular daily Light & Sound Shows, fireworks, and parades.
🔹 Cultural performances blending tradition and contemporary arts.
🔹 12-Zodiac-Year Merit-Making Ritual at the Phanom Naka Courtyard.
🔹 Food, music, and a vibrant fair featuring OTOP crafts and local products.

The Ministry of Culture affirmed that the Illuminated Boat Festival will serve as a global stage to share Thai cultural values, generate economic opportunities, and highlight Nakhon Phanom as the cultural heart of the Mekong. 

Two subcommittees have been established to drive concrete progress: one to design guidelines and activities that elevate the Illuminated Boat Festival to an international event, and the other to lead integrated communication strategies to raise awareness both domestically and globally.
