Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has taken direct action against technology-related crimes by establishing a national committee to coordinate efforts against call center gangs and online scam networks, aiming to protect citizens from the growing threat of cybercrime.
The National Committee for the Prevention and Suppression of Technology-Related Crimes will coordinate efforts among key agencies, including the Royal Thai Police, the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, the Ministry of Justice, and the Bank of Thailand. The committee is tasked with leading investigations, enforcement, and prosecutions targeting both domestic and cross-border networks. The new committee is scheduled to hold its first meeting on 20 October, with a focus on strengthening cybercrime prevention and enhancing digital safety for citizens.
Meanwhile, Thailand’s border with Cambodia remains closed as part of ongoing pressure on Cambodia to crack down scammer networks. The restrictions will continue until Cambodia meets Thailand’s four conditions, including stronger suppression of criminal groups operating along the border.
