Endorsed by Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES) has unveiled three proactive measures to prevent and combat technological crimes through integrated efforts across all sectors.
1. Proactive Action: Cut off internet and mobile signals along border areas to block illegal connections. Strengthen detection of unauthorized networks and impose strict penalties on offenders.
2. Integrated Data System: Enhance cooperation among the Anti-Technology Crime Operation Center (AOC 1441), Royal Thai Police, National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA), and other relevant agencies to integrate, analyze, and forecast online crime trends. A real-time central data system and dashboard will also be developed to track offenders’ financial transactions, facilitate the return of money to victims, and support public warning systems and inter-agency coordination.
3. Legal Amendment: Study the possibility of establishing a specialized agency, such as a Cyber Fraud Agency, to oversee and coordinate cybercrime efforts between the public and private sectors. The new legal framework will also strengthen penalties and enhance enforcement measures.
These three key measures are part of Thailand’s continued efforts to tackle various forms of technological crimes, including online scams, fake news and disinformation, online gambling, and financial fraud. The initiative underscores the government’s strong commitment to safeguarding citizens and restoring public confidence in the digital space.
