Airport Commute Made Easy with Debit/Credit Contactless Ticketing System for Airport Rail Link (ARL)

The Department of Rail Transport (DRT), in partnership with Asia Era One Co., Ltd. (AERA 1), the rail operator of the Airport Rail Link (ARL), has launched a new EMV Contactless ticketing system, available across all ARL stations starting 8 November 2025.

The new system allows passengers to pay fares conveniently, quickly, and securely by tapping any credit or debit card with the Contactless symbol directly at the gate, in addition to existing Smart Pass and token options.

Mr. Pichet Kunadhamraks, Director-General of the Department of Rail Transport, highlighted that the introduction of the EMV Contactless ticketing system marks a significant milestone in advancing Thailand's rail transport payment technology. He added that the initiative will help raise service standards and encourage greater use of rail transport in people's daily lives through more convenient and modern payment solutions.

The Airport Rail Link currently operates eight stations along a 28.6-kilometer route, connecting Suvarnabhumi Airport with Phaya Thai Station in central Bangkok. Serving as a vital link between the city center and Thailand's main international airport, the ARL plays an important role in easing urban traffic congestion and promoting public transport accessibility for both local commuters and international travelers.
