Thailand Sets New Taekwondo Record with 10 Gold Medals at 33rd SEA Games

Thailand made history at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 2025 Thailand) by capturing a record-breaking 10 gold medals in taekwondo.

The taekwondo competition concluded on 13 December 2025 at Fashion Island Shopping Center, where Thai athletes delivered a dominant final-day performance, securing three additional gold medals. These victories brought Thailand’s total to 10 golds and ensured a triumphant finish to the tournament.

Heading into the final day, Thailand had already secured seven gold medals—six in sparring matches and one in poomsae. In the final sessions, the team’s strong performances sealed the event's success.
- In the women’s 53 kg category, Chutikan Jongkolrattanawattana demonstrated exceptional composure and precision, defeating Vietnam's Nguyen Thi Loan of Vietnam 2–0 to claim the gold medal.
- Sasikarn Tongchan successfully defended her title in the women’s 62 kg division, overcoming Merica Lillyn Chan of the Philippines 2–0.
- Seventeen-year-old Thanapoom Fuangnoi won Thailand’s 10th gold in the men’s 63 kg category, defeating Kenneth Riley Buenavides of the Philippines 2–0.
- In the women’s 57 kg category, Phannapa Harnsujin earned a silver medal after losing 1–2 to Vietnam's Tran Thi Anh Tuyet of Vietnam.

Overall, Thailand’s taekwondo team collected nine gold medals in sparring and one in poomsae, along with two silver and two bronze medals, achieving the team’s stated objective.

According to Associate Professor Pimol Srivikorn, President of the Taekwondo Association of Thailand, this achievement marks a new high for Thai taekwondo at the SEA Games, surpassing the previous record of seven golds set in 2007. He highlighted that 13 out of 14 Thai athletes secured medals, underscoring the strength of Thailand’s athlete development system.
