The Tourism Authority of Thailand invites both Thai and international visitors to experience the Khon Masked Dance Drama set against the nostalgic and majestic atmosphere of Wat Chaiwatthanaram, one of the most iconic historical landmarks of Phra Nakhon Sri Ayutthaya.
Highlights of the performance:
- An enchanting world of Thai culture: UNESCO inscribed “Khon Masked Dance Drama in Thailand” on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2018, recognizing its cultural significance and artistic excellence;
- World-class backdrop: This rare performance takes place with the background of the magnificent prang (central tower) of Wat Chaiwatthanaram, creating a breathtaking scene that no conventional theater could ever replicate;
- Exquisite costumes: The golden embroidery of the khon attire shimmers under the lights, making every movement mesmerizing and powerful;
- The magic of music: The resonant sounds of the piphat orchestra echo throughout the ancient site, setting everyone’s heart racing to the rhythm of the epic battle between Tosakan and Phra Ram.
The khon performance takes place every Friday, Saturday, Sunday and on public holidays, from 15.00 to 21.30 hr, and will run until 1 February 2026.
