The Ministry of Commerce revealed that Thailand's total border and cross-border trade reached THB 1.937T (US$61.35B) in 2025, representing a 6.7% increase. This total includes THB 1.063T (US$33.67B) in exports, up 1.4%, and THB 874B (US$27.68B) in imports, which rose by 14.0%. Consequently, the country maintained a healthy trade surplus of THB 188.6B (US$5.97B).
Thailand trades with its four neighboring countries—Malaysia, Myanmar, Lao PDR, and Cambodia—valued at THB 894B (US$28.3B), a decrease of 8.5%. Exports were valued at THB 522B (US$16.53B), down 13.3%, while imports reached THB 372B (US$11.78B), a slight dip of 0.7%, resulting in a positive trade balance of THB 149.8B (US$4.74B). Malaysia remains Thailand's primary border trading partner by value, followed by Lao PDR, Myanmar, and Cambodia, respectively. Key border export products include diesel and processed petroleum, while imports are dominated by electricity and natural gas.
Cross-border trade with third countries reached a value of THB 1.043T (US$33.03B), up 24.4%. This includes THB 541B (US$17.13B) in export value, a 21.2% increase and THB 502.3B (US$15.91B) in import value, up 28.0%, yielding a surplus of THB 38.7B (US$1.22B) from exports to China, Singapore, and Vietnam. China ranked as Thailand's top cross-border trade partner by value, followed by Singapore and Vietnam, respectively. Fresh durians and hard disk drives were the standout performers in this sector, while magnetic tapes and platters were the most significant imports.
Director-General of the Department of Foreign Trade, Arada Fuangtong, noted that these results were achieved despite several challenges throughout the year. Trade was hindered by tensions along the Thailand-Cambodia border that led to temporary closures, as well as stricter import measures introduced by Myanmar during the second half of the year. Nevertheless, strong cross-border activity helped Thailand secure its overall surplus.
Looking ahead to 2026, the department expects the electronics industry and the expansion of data centers to remain key growth drivers. To support this momentum, the government plans to host several border trade fairs across provinces such as Khon Kaen and Chiang Rai to stimulate economic activity and assist affected entrepreneurs.
