Thailand Steps Up to Protect Businesses Amid US 15% Tariff

Suphajee Suthumpun, Minister of Commerce, stated that Thailand will continue advancing with trade negotiations with the United States to maintain stability in trade and investment relations, mitigate risks arising from volatility in trade measures, and address potential impacts on Thai businesses. She made the remarks following U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement of an increase in global import tariffs from 10 percent to 15 percent.

Minister Suphajee has assigned the Department of Trade Negotiations to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the situation. Meanwhile, the Thai Chamber of Commerce has affirmed its readiness to support the Government by providing in-depth business insights and policy recommendations to ensure that international trade negotiations are effective and accurately reflect the real situation of Thai entrepreneurs.

Although risks from rising tariff measures are increasing, Thailand still has the opportunity to strengthen its role as an alternative manufacturing base and regional trade hub, provided that trade regulations are clarified and the competitiveness of the business sector is further enhanced.
