Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has instructed all security agencies and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to closely monitor developments in the Middle East, as tensions between Iran and Israel continue to escalate. The Royal Thai Air Force has been placed on standby to evacuate Thai nationals if necessary, particularly in Iran, where more than 7,700 Thais reside, and across the wider region, which is home to over 70,000 Thai citizens.
On the economic front, the prime minister has ordered relevant agencies to assess the potential impact on oil prices and the cost of living, while implementing measures to stabilize essential goods prices and protect consumers from possible adverse effects. All ministries have been directed to accelerate support measures for Thai nationals both at home and abroad, including the activation of hotlines and comprehensive assistance channels.
Several ministries have already started contingency plans:
• Ministry of Foreign Affairs has established a war room to monitor the situation and coordinate assistance for Thai nationals in Iran, Israel, and other countries in the region.
• Ministry of Finance is monitoring the impact on living costs and energy prices.
• Ministry of Commerce has instructed Thai commercial attachés worldwide to assess potential impacts on exports.
• Ministry of Energy confirmed that Thailand’s oil reserves are sufficient for 61 days and is exploring alternative energy sources.
• Ministry of Transport and Airports of Thailand (AOT) have deployed staff to assist passengers affected by flight cancellations and disruptions.
• Ministry of Public Health, through the Department of Mental Health, has launched its 1323 hotline to provide mental health support related to the situation.
• Ministry of Labor is closely monitoring Thai workers in Israel and has provided emergency contact channels through labor offices at Thai embassies:
- Abu Dhabi: (+971) 2557 6833
- Tehran: (+98) 912 500 7933
In addition, the prime minister is scheduled to convene a meeting of the National Security Council on 2 March 2026, at 10:00 a.m., followed by consultations with relevant stakeholders, including members of the private sector, bankers, and representatives of chambers of commerce, to ensure that the situation does not severely impact Thai consumers and the national economy.
