Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, provided an update on the situation involving the Thai cargo vessel Mayuree Naree, which was attacked near the Strait of Hormuz on 11 March. Of the 23 Thai crew members on board, 20 have been rescued and are now safe, while three remain missing and search operations are continuing. He added that arrangements are being made to facilitate the safe return of the rescued crew members to Thailand.
Mr. Panidond Pachimsawat, Acting Director-General of the Department of Information and Deputy Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned the Iranian Ambassador to Thailand to lodge a formal protest regarding the incident, requesting clarification and assurances to prevent similar events in the future. The Ministry is also coordinating closely with relevant partners, including Oman, to support ongoing search efforts and provide assistance to the affected Thai nationals.
Mr. Phiphat further noted that the government is closely monitoring the impact of tensions in the Middle East on global energy markets. The current diesel price cap will remain in effect until 16 March, after which authorities will review possible additional measures. Thailand currently maintains approximately 98 days of crude oil reserves and is exploring additional supply options to ensure energy stability.
Meanwhile, Mr. Krichpetch Chaichuay, Director-General of the Marine Department, confirmed that the vessel sustained damage during the attack, forcing the crew to abandon the ship. Rear Admiral Chumpol Nakbua, Deputy Director of Naval Operations, added that the Royal Thai Navy has issued several navigation warnings for vessels operating in high-risk areas around the Strait of Hormuz. He also confirmed that no other Thai-flagged vessels are currently operating in the affected area.
