Thailand Pledges Stronger Action Against Online Scam at Vienna Fraud Summit

Thailand’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sihasak Phuangketkeow recently delivered the opening remarks at the Plenary Session of the Global Fraud Summit in Vienna, Austria, under the theme “Scam centers: The rising sophistication and cross-border impact of fraud” at the Vienna International Center.

In his address, the Foreign Minister reaffirmed Thailand’s strong commitment to tackling fraud, particularly online scams. He noted that such crimes were rapidly growing through the exploitation of emerging technologies and areas that have weak, or a lack of, governance and the rule of law. These crimes affect millions of people worldwide, damaging economies and security, while also violating human rights. He therefore reiterated the importance of international cooperation in the fight against such crimes.

The Minister also emphasized the need for strong political commitment to address online scams, highlighting the fact that Thailand has declared the fight against cybercrime and online scams part of the national agenda and has taken measures to enhance its response. These include establishing the National Committee for the Prevention and Suppression of Technology Related Crimes, and expanding cooperation with international partners such as the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL), as well as other relevant private entities. He further called on the international community to step up efforts on intelligence-sharing, timely cross-border investigations and response, and strengthening the ability to trace and recover illicit assets.

Thailand has continued advancing its efforts to combat fraud, particularly online scams. As such, Thailand’s participation in the Global Fraud Summit underscores the country’s commitment to making this issue a global priority and builds upon the outcomes of the International Conference on the Global Partnership against Online Scams, which was held on 17-18 December 2025 in Bangkok.
