Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul held a special press briefing at Government House titled "One Month of Global Crisis: Thailand's Response Plan in a Changed World" — outlining how Thailand has navigated one month of turbulence stemming from the Middle East conflict.
* Energy Security First
The conflict has driven oil prices up globally, with daily consumption in Thailand spiking from a normal 64–67 million liters to over 80–85 million liters — partly due to panic-buying. The government has responded by boosting oil reserves from approximately 62 days to 100 days of supply, and successfully negotiated safe passage for Thai oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz.
* Price Adjustments — Not a Free Float
The government clarified that easing the fuel price cap is NOT full deregulation. Subsidies through the Oil Fund continue, though reduced from THB24 (~$0.73) to THB16 (~US$0.49) per liter. Thai fuel prices still remain lower than most ASEAN neighbors, with only Indonesia and Brunei (both oil producers) priced lower.
* Cost of Living Relief
Starting 1 April 2026, the government will roll out the "Thai Helps Thai" initiative and Thong Fah, or Blue Flag stores, offering essential goods at arou 25% below market prices. Controlled goods have been expanded to 66 items (with a target of 71). Additional measures include excise tax cuts, welfare top-ups, fuel subsidies for transport operators, fertilizer aid for farmers, and SME credit lines.
* A Call to Every Household
The premier made a direct appeal: if each of Thailand's 10 million households reduces fuel use by just one liter per day, the country saves 10 million liters daily — worth approximately THB 600 million (~US$18.2 million) in combined public and household savings every single day, broken down as:
• THB200 million (~US$6.1million) in reduced government subsidy burden
• THB400 million (~US$12.2million) in household savings
He also urged the public to use public transport and carpooling — especially over the upcoming Songkran holiday — and to report any hoarding or illegal fuel trading.
