Thailand Launches SRI Alert to Strengthen Real-Time Disaster Response and Decision-Making

Thailand has launched “SRI Alert,” a new emergency management platform designed to support real-time disaster response by connecting citizen-generated data with scientific analysis for use by responsible agencies. Funded by the Thai RISE Fund, the system integrates research and knowledge from the Thailand Science, Research and Innovation (TSRI) system, including geospatial data, structural engineering, water and environmental systems, digital technology, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and community participation.

Rather than a public-facing application, SRI Alert is a centralized backend platform for institutions such as local governments, infrastructure operators, and organizations. It pulls together multi-source data, expert networks, and analytical tools into one system, giving decision-makers scientifically verified, actionable insights when it matters most.

The platform is designed to work with existing communication channels organizations already use, including social media and messaging applications, so agencies can issue real-time, area-specific alerts to targeted groups, without asking the public to download anything new.

The system also incorporates citizen participation indirectly, with real-time field reports feeding into the platform to enhance situational awareness. These inputs are analyzed and verified before being transmitted to relevant authorities, reinforcing SRI Alert’s role as a data filtering and intelligence layer rather than a broadcast tool, and supporting a shift toward more proactive, data-driven disaster management.
