Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul is leading a high-level ministerial delegation to Chiang Mai on 20 April 2026 to intensify the government’s response to forest fires and the escalating PM2.5 crisis.
Following a 2027 fiscal budget briefing, the Prime Minister—joined by key ministers of Commerce, Environment, Health, and Defense—will chair a strategic meeting with the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation. The mission aims to transition from reactive measures to proactive directives, focusing on four key pillars:
- Trade & Agriculture: Enforcing bans on agricultural imports linked to open-field burning and tightening oversight on high-altitude farming.
- Fire Containment: Increasing logistical and financial support for frontline wildfire units to ensure rapid response.
- Public Health: Enhancing medical assistance and protective measures for residents affected by severe air pollution.
- Economic Sustainability: Balancing environmental recovery with the protection of the northern tourism and agricultural sectors.
The government intends to integrate environmental, health, and economic perspectives into a long-term, sustainable solution for Northern Thailand.
