Thailand Commits US$35.7 Million to Host the 2026 IMF & World Bank Annual Meetings

The Thai Cabinet has just approved a THB1.16 billion (approximately US$35.7 million) budget to host the 2026 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group, right here in Bangkok this October!

From 12 to 18 October, the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center will welcome over 15,000 participants from 191 countries, including finance ministers, central bank governors, and top executives from global financial institutions.

On the agenda? Some of the world's most pressing issues are economic growth, financial stability, poverty reduction, and sustainable development.

This is a historic moment. The last time Thailand hosted these meetings was back in 1991 — 35 years ago! Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas called it "an important opportunity," reflecting Thailand's growth and its continued role as a hub for global economic cooperation.

Bank of Thailand Governor Vitai Ratanakorn also reaffirmed the country's readiness, pledging a smooth and well-coordinated event that delivers real outcomes for the global economy.

Thailand has been an IMF and World Bank member since 3 May 1949 — and now, over 75 years later, it's stepping up on the world stage once again.
