Most tourists only see Damnoen Saduak from a crowded boat. Here's a quieter way in.

A community-based tourism program in Damnoen Saduak District is promoting a one-day electric boat trip that highlights local history and traditional canal life. The program is operated by the Wat Choti Thayakaram Community Enterprise, set up by local residents to support income in the area. Visitors take an electric long-tail boat along the Damnoen Saduak Canal, which runs quietly and produces less pollution than traditional engines.

The journey starts at Wat Cho Boat Pier, a community pier built through cooperation among local people. Along the route, there are several stops, including Lao Tuk Luck Floating Market, the province's first floating market. Once an active trading area, it has been restored and now offers insight into traditional canal-side life, with local shops and food stalls open especially in the morning.

The program also includes a visit to Ban Chek Hourd Mahatlek (Low Hourd Seng), also known as the Royal Page’s House. This historic site once welcomed King Chulalongkorn on a private river journey and reflects the community's history. Another stop is Wat Choti Thayakaram, where many devotees come to pray to a respected Buddha image. 

The trip ends with an herbal inhaler workshop, where participants can learn simple traditional methods and create a product to take home. The program runs daily from 7 AM to 2 PM, at THB800 (around US$25) per hour for up to four people per boat. Other activity options are also available through the community enterprise for tourists.

Ratchaburi Province, where Damnoen Saduak District is located, is known for its network of canals, floating market tourism, and historical attractions. Located not far from Bangkok, the province offers an easy, short trip to experience the riverside and local daily life.
