Thai PM Calls 2026 IMF–World Bank Meetings Thailand's “Olympics of Finance”

Thailand’s Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul presided over the inaugural meeting of the Organizing Committee for the 2026 IMF–World Bank Group Annual Meetings, to be held 12–18 October 2026 in Bangkok.

The meetings, which the premier likened to the "Olympics of Finance," will be hosted at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, with over 1,000 side sessions expected across the week. More than 15,000 participants from 189 countries are anticipated to attend.

The official theme — "Thailand's New Horizons: Empowering People, Building Resilience" — sets the tone for Thailand's ambitions as host.

Three subcommittees have been appointed to manage substantive content, ceremonies and logistics, and security and public health, respectively.

The Prime Minister underscored that hosting this event will draw the eyes of the world to Thailand, calling it "an opportunity for the country and every Thai" to demonstrate the nation's potential and identity through every element of the meetings, with the goal of stimulating tourism, investment, and income generation across multiple sectors.

He further emphasized that success will require collaboration across all sectors of society, expressing his desire for every Thai citizen to feel a sense of shared ownership: "I want every Thai to feel that we are hosting this together, because this is a vital opportunity to leave a lasting impression and reflect Thailand's full potential to the global community."
