Thailand's Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs Eksiri Pintaruchi briefed 73 foreign diplomats and international organization representatives on the outcomes of the 48th ASEAN Summit held on 8 May 2026 in Cebu, the Philippines, attended by Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, as well as the trilateral meeting between Thailand, the Philippines and Cambodia on 7 May 2026.
The Permanent Secretary highlighted that the Summit centered on the impacts of the Middle East situation on ASEAN. Thailand proposed three strategic approaches — promoting regionalism, resilience, and relevance — to help ASEAN navigate the current geopolitical landscape, marked by an undermined rules-based international order and rising global conflicts. Thailand also reaffirmed its commitment to ASEAN's food and energy security efforts and the protection of ASEAN nationals.
On Myanmar, ASEAN leaders agreed on the need to rethink their engagement approach. On the trilateral front, Thailand and Cambodia agreed to task their Foreign Ministers with developing confidence-building measures to gradually restore bilateral relations.
