BMA and Airbnb.org Partner to Support Emergency Housing for Disaster-Affected Communities

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) and Airbnb.org recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen access to temporary accommodation for people affected by emergencies in Bangkok. The partnership ensures that people displaced by natural disasters, as well as critical workers responding to emergencies, can access safe and reliable accommodation when they need it most.

Through this collaboration, Airbnb.org , a nonprofit dedicated to providing free emergency housing during crises,  will provide US$250,000 to support emergency stays in Bangkok. Families impacted by disasters will receive credits to book stays on Airbnb that best meet their needs, provided free of charge and funded by Airbnb.org and its donors.

Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok, said, "When the earthquake struck last year, we saw firsthand the value of collaboration between the public sector and nonprofit organizations. Through our partnership with Airbnb.org, we were able to help those affected access temporary accommodation within 48 hours of the emergency. This MOU builds on that foundation and strengthens Bangkok's ability to respond to future disasters."

The agreement follows a successful collaboration after the 2025 Bangkok earthquake, during which Airbnb.org provided more than 4,000 nights of free emergency housing. The partnership reflects a shared commitment to practical, community-focused solutions that bring together local leadership and global support to reach those affected quickly and effectively.

The partnership stands as a model for how cities and nonprofits can work hand in hand to turn crisis response into community resilience.
