Thailand Raises the Bar for Durian Exports

Thailand’s Agriculture Minister Suriya Jungrungreangkit visited the eastern province of Chanthaburi to oversee durian export operations and quality control measures, as Thailand pushes to stay ahead in an increasingly competitive global market.

The government has set an ambitious target of over THB150 billion (US$4.4 billion) in durian export revenue this year, with quality and trustworthiness identified as key factors in holding on to Thailand's most important market, China.

So far, Thailand has already exported over 460,000 tons of fresh durian across 28,500 shipments, valued at more than THB52.5 billion (US$1.5 billion), a strong sign that global demand remains robust.

To protect Thailand's reputation, the Ministry of Agriculture is enforcing a strict "4 No's" policy — No unripe fruit, No pests, No rights fraud, and No chemical residues — alongside round-the-clock, 24-hour export facilitation.

Other key measures include upgrading inspection labs, connecting the e-Phyto and TAS-License digital systems to improve traceability, and launching a model "quality durian orchards" that promotes organic and bio-based farming in line with global green market trends.
As the minister put it, Thai durian isn't just an agricultural product; It's a major economic driver connecting farmers, exporters, logistics, and Thailand's food image on the world stage.
