The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives is teaming up with the Department of Livestock Development (DLD) and Thai-Chinese private-sector partners to aggressively scale up live cattle exports to China, aiming to reach 1.2 million head per year via maritime transport.
Chai Wacharonke, Vice Minister for Agriculture and Cooperatives, revealed that sanitary negotiations with the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) have progressed significantly, with only four main issues remaining. Plans are underway to establish a large-scale quarantine station at Bang Saphan Port in Prachuap Khiri Khan province, to meet international screening standards.
Key strategic actions include:
● Establishing a Joint Working Group to finalize technical documentation and transition the negotiations into a formal Government-to-Government (G2G) framework.
● Securing Disease-Free Status — From the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) to build trading partner confidence.
● Focusing on the Premium Chilled Meat Market — For crossbred cattle weighing over 450 kg to maximize value and avoid frozen meat competition.
The Ministry aims to launch the first shipment within one year, transforming Thailand's beef industry into a sustainable global exporter and promising a brighter, more prosperous future for Thai livestock farmers.
