Thailand is making cashless travel easier than ever. International visitors from nine Asian markets can now use their home country's mobile banking apps and e-wallets to make QR code payments at participating businesses across the country, as Thailand continues to expand its cross-border digital payment network for tourists.
Promoted by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) through its "Pay Like a Local" campaign, the initiative lets travelers pay seamlessly at shops, restaurants, tourist attractions, and other tourism businesses — no cash required. The service is currently available to visitors from China, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, South Korea, Laos, Cambodia, and Hong Kong, with more markets set to join soon.
Led by the Bank of Thailand in partnership with eight Thai banks and payment providers, the initiative supports broader efforts to enhance payment convenience for international visitors while encouraging tourism businesses to adopt digital payment systems more widely.
According to TAT, expanding cross-border QR payments will make everyday transactions smoother for travelers while helping tourism businesses keep pace with evolving visitor payment preferences.
